OLYMPIC WEIGHTLIFTING
A MARRIAGE OF STRENGTH AND FINESSE
Olympic weightlifting, or simply weightlifting, is an athletic discipline in the modern Olympic program in which the athlete attempts a maximum-weight lift of a barbell loaded with plates. There are two events in weightlifting: the snatch (shown below on the left) and the clean & jerk (right).

Our Olympic Weightlifting (OW) program sets us apart from other gyms because we offer attentive coaching (1:4 coach:athlete ratio), thoughtfully personalized programming that evolves as you improve, and an open class structure that encourages you to spend time experimenting and learning rather than rushing you through the workout, as is common at other boutique gyms and their strict 1 hour class structures. For those more serious about competing, we work 1-on-1 to peak athletes for upcoming competitions.
FAQ
Q: Do I need to compete if I do Olympic Weightlifting?
A: No. In fact, about half our weightlifting athletes never intend to compete! Many simply enjoy learning the technique, and getting stronger.
Q. If I touch a barbell or start strength training will it make me bulky?
A. No. Strength Training and Olympic lifting are not Bodybuilding. However, if your goals are to bulk, we can build that into your program.
Q. Looks dangerous?
A. Statistically Olympic Weightlifting has one of lowest injury rates compared to other gym activities when performed correctly. Every session is coached by an experienced coach, meaning we will never push you beyond your physical capabilities. Safety is our #1 priority.
Q. Looks heavy?
A. We start beginners will a light aluminum training bar and plastic technique plates. The barbell and plates come out to less than 15 pounds per arm. After you have been cleared by a coach, you will be allowed to train on a standard weightlifting barbell.
